-Bruce Davidson's "Girl with Kitten"
The subject of the photo is a girl with a kitten standing near a street in London, England.
Reading Davidson's description of this photo he mentions the use of Leica's, a high quality rangefinder I would assume is 35mm. There seems to be a shallow depth of field which helps focus the attention on the subject, but may have been used for there may have been a lack of available light. The composition is framed slightly to the left but she glances to the right of the frame which I feel balances the image. The road diagonally coming from back left to front right also balances the frame, along with drawing the attention to the eyes, one of the most important features in a portrait, in my opinion. This photo was taken in 1960. I feel the image relates to his other work in a profound way, Davidson captures the mysterious nature of these informal interactions with these bustling pedestrians by means of cruising or walking the streets of London. I feel like Davidson captured a emotionally dynamic picture, the woman depicted seems to be in deep thought. Thoughts of sustaining life perhaps, for herself, and for her kitten.
